New Growth Project

Lucky? Or Working Smart?

As Luck Would Have It.

Actually, at New Growth Project, we don't believe in luck. However, we believe in hard work and keeping the faith that good things are to come.

Farming isn't easy. But neither is finding and maintaining work when you're an adult with an intellectual disability. The vast majority of individuals with disabilities remain unemployed in our county. In contrast, we see incredible growth and mastering of skills on the farm. Whether our employees are planting seeds, pouring candles, or packing gift boxes, our employees are taking steps toward meaningful employment.

Meet the Farmer

Did you know eating locally is the best way to get the most nutrition from your food? Get to know your local farmer and get a vegetable subscription this Saturday, March 22, at the Fulton Street Market from 10-1.

How Do They Do That?

How does New Growth Project plan for all the vegetables they grow?

Jordan, our farmer, has a knack for using spreadsheets and project management software like none other. We use an expansive sheet outlining when to plant seeds, transplant the seedlings, weed schedules, harvest, and deliver to our CSA Members and farmers markets. Thanks, Jordan!

Did you know we need a delivery van? We currently use our personal vehicles, which require multiple trips and cars to get our vegetables and employees where they need to go.

How does New Growth Project start their plants?

We are so grateful for our community partners. A few years ago, a collaboration with Integrated Packaging Machinery helped us rehab a part of our collapsed greenhouse. We rebuilt this section with a gift from IPM and built several new germination stations. As the employees fill trays with seeds, they are kept in these stations at the correct temperature, with light and air movement, to create the best environment for growing seedlings.

Harvest Partner Sponsors

Harvest Partner Sponsors are local organizations that believe in providing meaningful employment to adults with disabilities. Through their sponsorships, their employees and staff get to experience the fruit of our labor by shopping at a mobile farmers market at their location, a personalized volunteer day, and a connection to their local farm. These sponsorships fuel our operations. Thank you!

We look forward to seeing you on the farm soon. Again, thank you for cheering us on and your support.

Christine, Carly, and the New Growth Project crew

P.S. We are looking forward to the upcoming Farm Social on March 27th. With music from members from Domestic Problems, fun games, and fabulous prizes, this event is the one to be at this spring!
